Question by eric: How common is weight gain with amitriptyline? Why does it cause weight gain?
I have been using amitriptyline for about two weeks now. It was prescribed to me for anxiety and insomnia. So far I have had no problems with the drug, but I have read up on the symptoms and weight gain was one of them. I was just wondering, how common is weight gain with this drug and why does it cause weight gain to begin with?

It gives a sweet tooth to a fairly large minority of people. Whether they actually act on the impulse is up to each individual.
