Are grains bad for everyone?

I’ve read a lot of articles that say grains are “horrible” for you.

I tried the paleo diet for a month, aka I cut out all grains, dairy, and processed foods. And ate a diet mostly consisting of vegetables, lean (always grilled) meats, and some fruit & nuts. It was very strict. Before the diet I was eating a very healthy diet without any processed foods and very little dairy. The main adjustment was cutting out grains. I noticed the difference instantly: I had no energy. I usually jog twice a day and play basketball for about an hour. I could hardly run at all anymore. I also had to sleep over 12 hours a night or I wouldn’t wake up in the morning. It was horrible. But I decided to give my body time to adjust. It never did.

I was very strict for the entire month. Trying all sorts of vegetables, even forcing myself to eat a lot of it raw. By the end I was still just as tired and my I hadn’t lost or gained weight. My goal is to *healthily lose ten pounds right now, and more importantly, I always retain 10-15 pounds of water weight a few days before my period, and I was hoping cutting out grains would help with this. I gained the water weight like usual. Gah. When I started eating grains again I not only lost two pounds but got all my energy back.

So are grains bad for everyone? What do my symptoms mean physically? Should I continue to eat grains or cut them out slowly?
