Question by Cara: Why haven’t I lost weight on The Paleo Diet yet?
I have followed Paleo to the T for 2 weeks now, fresh veggies, fruits and a lot of fish and lean chicken. I am not expecting immediate weight loss what so ever, trust me. I want to make this my way of life and not just a diet. Overall I feel wonderful so that’s a good sign I guess. I at least thought I’d have lost water weight or a pound or 2. I’m frustrated and discouraged but I refuse to give up. Any encouragement or good bits of advice?

good for you for refusing to give up! hang in there! sometimes it can take more than two weeks to lose weight especially if this paleo diet is drastically different from how you used to eat. it also depends on your age, genetic metabolic rate and how active you are outside your daily routine (i.e work or school.)
you should also keep in mind that although your eating more healthy now…even getting too many calories from healthy food can lead to storing or maintaining those pounds of excess fat you’d rather be rid of. you should chart yourself for a week using a food diary and write down everything you eat everyday. at the end of the week visit: calorieking.com to look up the caloric value for what you’ve eaten. come up with an average. if you find you are eating around 2000cal per day this is way too much for quick, effective weight loss. try staying around 1500 cal a day. if you are already around 1500 per day, try lowering it by 100 for a month or two and see what your results are. you should get them by then. if not go down another 100 for the next 2 months and track your progress. don’t go below 1200-1300 cal per day though because that could end up screwing up your metabolism. caloric needs vary from one person to the next so play around with it until you find something that works for you. best wishes
