Stop Making Diet Mistakes – Start Losing Weight

Many people who try to lose weight make diet mistakes that hamper their lose weight diets. To lose weight is not a simple undertaking. And, when your weight scale does not reflect your efforts, you may feel defeated to the point of abandoning the whole idea of losing weight.

The purpose of this article is to show you some of the common mistakes you may be making. See if any of them apply to you. Avoid them and chances are that your weight loss diets will start working and you will lose weight.

1. Monotonous diet. A good healthy diet will definitely help you lose weight by offering a variety of foods and meals to chose from. If your weight loss diet does not provide a variety of foods, it is not a good diet! Lack of variety leads to boredom, cravings, cheating, poor results and eventual abandonment of the weight loss program. That is why many people experience the YO-YO effect of losing weight and gaining it back with a vengeance.

2. Going all out. Many people believe that when they start something they must give it the fullest effort. That is a good belief. Unfortunately, many dieters go over – board. They clean out their cupboards and fridge of “undesirable” foods. They throw out the foods they love and ones that may be tempting them to cheat. This is one of the worst diet mistakes. During your diet you will miss some of your foods. What is even more difficult is your thought that you will never be able to have these foods. The outcome is that you will be running out to the store, picking up the container of ice cream and eating it at one sitting. When you leave some of the foods you love (within reason) in your house, just the mere fact that they are there will satisfy you and help you overcome your cravings.

3. Not eating enough. When on a weight loss diet you should never be hungry. A healthy diet plan is one that ensures you have plenty of food to eat at 5-6 intervals per day. Make sure that you do not change your program’s calorie intake specifications. A daily requirement for an average moderately active woman is approximately 2000 calories and for a man about 2500 calories. Generally, when you are trying to lose weight you should eat about 500 less calories than your norm. If you reduce you calorie intake by a higher amount you may endanger your health. Check with your doctor.

We are all bound to have lapses. If you make diet mistakes all is not lost as long as you become aware of them. Try to think why it happened and how you can prevent it from happening again. Do not dwell on it. Continue with your weight loss program. Eventually you will succeed.
