Question by summerfest_01: How to avoid weight gain once you have quit smoking?
I don’t know that I can maintain both my weight and not smoking at the same time. But, I don’t want to gain very much as an adverse side effect, either. Suggestions? Thank you.

Every time you think you are hungry, drink a glass of water and wait thirty minutes. If you’re still hungry for food after that, then eat something. If not, then you just needed water! A lot of the time our bodies need hydration, but we confuse the feeling of thirst for the feeling of hunger. Just another reason so many people are dehydrated.

If you genuinely are hungry for food, but don’t want to eat something at that time, try chewing sugar-free gum instead of eating. Don’t chew gum too often, as you may become afflicted with TMJ, but using it to pacify an oral fixation sparked by years of smoking should do the trick.
